At the edge of the Isle of lewis,
On a remote clifftop
Amidst the wild and beautiful landscape of the Outer Hebrides
Lies Gallan Head Restaurant & Hotel
The Most north-westerly restaurant in the british isles
ORIGINS
Gallan Head takes it’s name from the headland on which we sit. As with many names in the area its Origins are from Old Norse. Gallan is taken from the old norse of “KALLA”, meaning “the roaring of the waves on the rocks”
OUR GALLAN HEAD
Our Hotel occupies what was the administration building of the former RAF base built at Gallan Head, the most North-Westerly point of the British Isles. Built in 1954 to monitor the North Atlantic Gap during the Cold War years, the base consisted of 24 substantial buildings, which were abandoned in 1963 and replaced by satellite surveillance equipment and the RAF/NATO presence at Stornoway Airport
